Why elicitation works is simple. Most people want to be polite and helpful. So we answer questions even from strangers or people we don't know. We are also reluctant to with hold information, lie or be suspicious of others motives, and intentions.
The Russians use this to their advantage, and are experts at HUMINT or "human intelligence", as evidence by their willingness to send people under deep cover assignments to other nations for 20-30 years in some cases. They are very methodical and systematic in their overall approach to intelligence gathering.
It is part of their "tried and true" approach to intelligence gathering, that has succeeded for them time and time again.
Many people in the west don't fully appreciate the Russian method in espionage, until it's too late.
We must be aware of elicitation, and be ready to fully deflect questions that are intrusive and too probing regarding your job.

"I know that a lot of my song came off as always bashing males, which seemed like I don't like men. That's not it all," she laughed.

"I love men and I do songs to express my appreciation for them too."

It's A Pity Tanya did not have enough time at Unplugged to tell her male fans how much she appreciated them, but she did touch on the issue when she sang These Streets from her 2006 Rebelution album.
She sang several songs from that Rebelution album, making sure hits from the 1990s, such as Yuh Nuh Ready Fi Dis Yet and Google, were not left out.
The musician used the opportunity to discuss the discrimination of persons living with HIV in a new song that had the crowd intrigued.

While the message in the songs were of hope and inspiration, and there were great performances from Prodigal Son, Omari and Sister Sculley, the show was also plagued with poor performances, made worse by music that was too loud, in some instances.
But the negatives should not take away from the objective to raise funds for Sheldon McIntosh, whose story is a testimony many Christians should want to embrace.
On March 17, 2008, McIntosh, a self-employed young man went to a business place to collect money owed to him. Unfortunately, his visit was not to be uneventful as he crossed paths with gunmen who had also decided to call on the business place. He was shot four times, three to the head and one to the side.
According to McIntosh, seated in a wheelchair to the back of the auditorium, the shot to his side went through, but two of the shots grazed his head and one lodged in his neck, paralysing him.
Through a financial grant, McIntosh went to Cuba for one-month therapy, and has made some progress, but it is an expensive venture and he needs funds to complete the recommended six months.
"I chose to do a gospel show to raise funds," McIntosh shared with The Gleaner. Perhaps his decision was influenced by Charmaine Brown's scream of "I love you, Jesus!" as she and other women lifted and helped McIntosh to the hospital. McIntosh said it was those words that pulled him back from the dark.
Brown was one of the performers on the programme. She gave a fair performance of I Love You, Jesus and He Raised Me Up.
Young Redeem and Charmaine Limonius gave a creditable performance too.

Country-pop singer Taylor Swift thanked her fans on Wednesday for buying more than one million copies of her new album "Speak Now", making it the biggest first week seller in five years.

"I... Can't... Believe... This... You guys have absolutely lit up my world. Thank you," Swift said in Twitter message. Official Nielsen SoundScan figures showed that "Speak Now" sold 1,047,000 copies in the United States during the week ended October 31.

It was the biggest sales week for an album since rapper 50 Cent's 2005 album "The Massacre" sold 1,141,000.

The critically well-praised album -- the third from the 20 year-old singer-songwriter -- also notched up the second-largest sales week of any country album since 1991.

The bumper numbers, helped by a massive promotional push including TV appearances, advance digital releases of some of the new songs and free concerts by Swift, came after years of music industry gloom over declining album sales and piracy.

Swift, who won four Grammys earlier this year, has carved out a distinctive niche over the past two years for songs that address adolescent heart-break and the social perils of high-school.
Her album "Fearless" was the biggest selling record of 2009.
In "Speak Now", she delivers a forthright commentary on several men who have broken or messed with her heart.

The album includes songs widely believed to refer to singer John Mayer, pop star Joe Jonas, rapper Kanye West, "Twilight" actor Taylor Lautner, and music industry critics who slammed her shaky vocal performance at the 2010 Grammy Awards.
Nashville music industry writer David Ross, editor of MusicRow, said Swift's success flies in the face of conventional wisdom about the dire state of the recording industry.
"Unlike many of the top-charting female artists of today, Ms. Swift eschews tabloid behavior and asks fans to focus on her music," Ross said on Wednesday.
"In some universal way, her life contests connect with similar moments that have brushed the fabric of others as well," Ross added.

Martin Sheen set to film ‘Stella Days’ in Tipperary

Martin Sheen is set to begin filming in for ‘Stella Days’ in Fethard, County Tipperary not far from where his families home town.

Sheen’s mother, Mary Anne Phelan, emigrated to the United States from that area and Sheen still has residents in the village of Kilbarron. Sheen spent a great deal of time in Ireland four years ago when he completed an Arts degree from the National University of Ireland, in Galway City.
The actor who has starred in such hits as “Apocalypse Now”, “Wall Street” and “The West Wing” is set to start filming over the coming weeks.
“Stella Days” tells the story of a newly-arrived parish priest (Sheen) who wants to open a cinema in the small town in the 1950s. His plans attract opposition from his bishop and some locals who fear the effect this outside influence might have on their way of life.
Thaddeus O’Sullivan, the director, has already been spotted in the picturesque town over the last month selecting locations for filming. O’Sullivan’s latest project, “Into the Storm”, starring Brendan Gleeson as Winston Churchill won a host of awards.
It is believed that filming will take place in the famous McCarthy’s Bar, the town hall and the Holy Trinity Church. Extras for the crowd scenes will be cast from the locals in the town.

Miss Ireland finishes in top five of Miss World contest

Miss Ireland Emma Britt Waldron placed in the final five of the Miss World contest held Saturday night in southern China.

The 21-year-old Irish beauty from Waterford also won the Continental Queen title in European category of the pageant, as well as the Miss World fast-track event.

The winner of the competition was Alexandria Mills, an 18-year-old from Louisville, Kentucky. Emma Wareus, of Botswana, was runner-up.

More than 100 countries are represented in the 60-year-old contest, said organizers.

Sarah Bolger has been cast in the lead role for the new 3D fantasy “Starbright”. The Dublin born actress will star alongside actor James Earl Jones, who played Darth Vader in “Star Wars”.

In “Starbright” the 19-year-old plays an orphan called Pamela who escapes into a fantasy world of fairy tales to hide the pain of a tough childhood.

Bolger was a recipient of the best actress award at the 2010 Irish Film and Television Awards for her role as Mary Tudor in “The Tudors”. Her other acting credits include “In America” (2002) and “The Spiderwick Chronicles” (2008). She is currently filming Mary Harron's gothic film “The Moth Diaries” in Monreal.

The German-US co-production is being produced by Michel Morales’ Munich-based Aviv Pictures, US based Lucente Filmed Entertainment, and Michel Shane and Anthony Romano’s Hand Picked Films (US).
Directed by Francesco Lucente, filming is expected to begin in early 2011.

Conan O'Brien talks about his new show

Speaking about his new upcoming show Conan O'Brien has put the NBC debacle behind him and is focused on his new endeavor.

“I’m trying to take everything that I’ve picked up or learned over the last ten months and apply it to this new show. Now, we’ll err, we’ll make mistakes, we’ll hit dead ends. But I don’t want to give up any ground or any of the cool things that we discovered,” he told Vulture Magazine.

He is excited about the challenge and revealed the show will present a new angle as it represents a new context for the Irish American star. O'Brien said that music will be not be a prominent fixture: “Music is not something you can do on the television every night. Really, these shows at their best are about small moments that become big.”

Will Ferrel a close friend of O'Brien's will also be making a future appearance on the cable television show: “Will remains one of my favorite people of all time, and he’ll be part of the show.”

O'Brien is eager to put his tumultuous year behind him and get back to doing what he's good at. Making people laugh.
“The hoopla of the last ten months — I’m anxious to have that phase be over, and just have people say, "I saw him last night and this thing really made me laugh," he told Vulture magazine.
“I am someone who wants to be recognized for things I do that are funny. That’s what I primarily want. I like to try and make people laugh,” he added.
When asked if his main motivation was to prove to NBC that they had made the wrong decision O'Brien insisted that it's not a healthy motivation to have and added that his new show is his main priority.
“My biggest motivation is, I think I have something to offer, and I like the work. I really do like the work and putting this show together. I mean, I questioned very seriously when this all happened ten months ago or whatever, “What do I have left in me? Do I have more to say? Do I have more to do?” And the answer came back to me pretty quickly that, yeah, I really like doing this.”

The porn star who was with Charlie Sheen during his rampage at the Plaza Hotel in New York last week is the daughter of a Co. Cork immigrant who lives in the Bronx.

Christina Walsh, whose working name is Capri Anderson or Alexis Capri, grew up in the Norwood section of the Bronx with her Irish family.
Walsh, 22, grew up in a very loving Irish family and moved out a few years ago to pursue a career in the porn industry.
According to a family friend who contacted the Irish Voice following a Facebook message, “The Walsh family are very good people and this is a difficult time for them.”
Walsh’s father Paul, 74, emigrated from Mitchelstown, Co. Cork after attending the University College of Cork to pursue the American Dream.
Paul, who worked many jobs since coming to the U.S., runs a dog breeding business out of his home in the Bronx. Each of the dogs he sells are born in Ireland. He is divorced from Christina’s mother.
A family friend, who asked not to be named, told the Irish Voice via Facebook, “Paul and his daughters are a lovely family and the media attention they are receiving is over the top and unnecessary.”
The friend said that the “whole saga” is heartbreaking for them.
“The life Christina chose is private and her family should not be dragged into this mess.”
The friend added that Christina is “very proud” of her Irish heritage and her father.
“Christina is close with her family and I'm sure they are supporting her through this time.”
The family friend described Christina as a “very sweet girl” growing up.
“I'm sure the choices she has made in her career were for good reasons. In my eyes she is still very young and impressionable,” the friend said.
During a screen test for a porn movie four years ago -- currently playing live on the TMZ website -- Walsh explained her heritage.
When asked by the interviewer about her ancestry and where she gets her looks from, Walsh replied, “I’m am Walsh, which was the French settlers in Ireland for those of you who don’t know.”
On Walsh’s Facebook page it states that she left home at 18 to pursue her career because her parents did not want her posing nude.
Walsh, the youngest of four girls, traveled to Ireland last summer with her three sisters and her father for a cousin’s wedding. There are several pictures of her with her family in Ireland, dressed modestly and appearing shy.

Christopher Nolan says Batman 3 will be groundbreaking

Film director Christopher Nolan told the press this week he plans to make the next Batman film technologically groundbreaking.
The auteur director said he follow up picture in his Batman series will be called 'The Dark Knight Rises' and will be shot using high-definition IMAX cameras and not 3D.
Nolan believes the introduction of 3D would disrupt what he called the visual continuity of his series to date, and he simply wants to retain the epic sense of scale that was present in the two previous films.
"We want the look and feel of the film to be faithful to what has come before in the first two films. There was a large canvas and operatic sweep to The Dark Knight, and we want to make a film that will carry on with that look and feel," Nolan told the press.
"There's an intimacy at times with 3D and we just didn't want to lose scale. Our ambition for the third movie is to complete a story that has begun. This is not starting over, this is not rebooting. We're finishing something, and keeping a consistency with what's come before has real value."
He added: "We're looking to do something technologically that's never been done before. Our ambitions are to make a great movie."
'The Dark Knight Rises' is due to be released on July 20, 2012

Maeve Binchy to get lifetime achievement award

Maeve Binchy, Ireland's beloved bestselling novelist, will be presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award at this year's Irish Book Awards.

Binchy, who turned 70 this year, is arguably Ireland's most popular novelist of all time.

Although Binchy claimed she had retired several years ago, in fact she is still writing and her latest novel is already an international bestseller.

Binchy's award was announced on Thursday as the shortlists for the Bord Gais Energy Irish Book Awards 2010 were revealed.

Other Irish authors nominated in yesterdays announcements included novelists Colum McCann, Colm Toibin, Cathy Kelly, Cecelia Ahern, Joseph O'Connor, newcomer Amy Huberman and children's author John Boyne.

The eventual winners will be determined by public vote and with guidance by literary experts. The public can vote for their favorite author on the website www.irishbookawards.ie

Peaches Geldof and Eli Roth 'split on good terms'

The 21-year-old model and television presenter started seeing Hollywood star Eli eight months ago and friends had hoped the relationship would bring an end to the chaos in her personal life.

It now appears those hopes have been dashed, as the Sunday Mirror reports they have decided to go their separate ways.

Eli's promotional duties for The Last Exorcism and Peaches' attempts to kick-start her TV career were apparently the causes of the break-up, as those commitments meant they were seeing less and less of each other.

They at least parted on good terms, although Peaches is said to be upset about the split.

A source said: 'Peaches is really sad that things didn't work out with Eli. They were very much in love and she'd never been so nuts about a guy.'

The insider added: 'They remain great friends and her time spent with him will remain extremely precious - but it's all over now.'
Peaches, who already has a divorce behind her, is said to be focusing all her energies on work in a bid to distract herself from the split.

'When I was 17 I did think about doing something nasty,' she revealed to the News of the Word.

'It was all psychological. I was damaged. I had to get help from a professional. I also had to see a doctor who gave me treatment.'

Boyle, who was born with minor brain damage and has learning difficulties, insisted it wasn't a sign of weakness to seek help.

'You mustn't be afraid to do that. It's not a sign of weakness. It gave me the confidence to fight back, knock on people's doors, audition and finally get what I wanted.'

'In my case it was a small group of teenage girls that put me to that place. They're the worst kind. It can really hold you back and damage you. Mental bullying is the worst kind of bullying.'

The 49-year-old also said she was more 'confident' and 'stable' now.

Scottish spinster Boyle who once famously claimed she'd never been kissed also said she hadn't given up hope of finding true love.

'There's still time to meet Mr Right. You can never say never to finding someone.'

'But I do think it's possible to be happy and to be on your own, you know. I've managed all these years just fine, haven't I?'

‘When I came in with Ethan she was just like: “Oh my God!” She just cooed over him and he gave her such a big smile. ‘She’s been asking me about that saying: “How’s it all fitting in?” And I say: “You can’t plan any of that. You just have to go for it.”’
On baby Ethan, Minogue says: ‘He’s a good baby. I’m lucky and just loving it. I think everyone at work can see that there’s just this inner happiness in me.’

She also defended Cole’s performance on last weekend’s show after she was blasted for miming.
‘I thought Cheryl’s performance was one of the best I’ve ever seen on The X Factor. As long as you’re entertaining and putting on a good show that’s the most important thing.’

Minogue spoke to Metro before greeting fans who camped out for the signing of her new autobiography, My Story.

Lily Allen suffers second miscarriage

The Smile singer was six months pregnant with her and boyfriend Sam Cooper’s first child and the couple have asked for privacy at this ‘deeply distressing time’.

Lily was rushed to hospital on Thursday morning after suffering stomach pains but today her spokesman confirmed she had suffered a miscarriage.
‘It is with great sadness that we have to confirm that Lily Allen and Sam Cooper have lost their baby,’ her publicist said.
‘The couple ask that their privacy be respected and that they be left alone at this deeply distressing time. No further comment will be made.’
Allen started dating Sam in the summer of 2009 and the happy pair announced they were expecting their first child in August this year. Months later the pair confirmed they were expecting a baby boy.

Wayne and Coleen Rooney splash £90,000 on Kai
